Muslims Can Take Part in BBNaija

BB Naija
BB Naija
Nigerians have questioned why the TV show which is tagged Nigerian decided to site the Big Brother house in South Africa.

The answer to that question is not esoteric. Nigerians are still a very morally upright people; a repeat of the previous scandals could lead to an invasion of the house by Nigerians which might include the relatives of the contestants.

Of the 48 individuals who have contested in the BBNaija TV show, none of them has ever been a Muslim. There is nothing Muslim about Munirat Antoinette "Anto" Lecky of Big Brother Season 3.

One would believe there is a standing and official ban on Muslim contestants, but ironically, Muslims love it that way.

As for Christians, their faith doesn’t lay much emphasis on good deeds hence, issues relating to morality, piety and righteousness are relegated to personal choices.

Some Muslims might begin to see this as a challenge-asking themselves, “why can’t Muslims stand-up and show that we exist?”

Some might even say, “The prize money of N45 million will go a long way in alleviating poverty from the Muslim Ummah”.

The fact that there has never been a Muslim contestant even though there are no restrictions on Muslims shows that the Muslim life-style does not find the activities at the Big Brother house appealing.

Muslims have to be involved in anything that brings about unity among members of different cultures but never at the detriment of their Islamic faith. Can Muslims vie in BBNaija?

The answer is a capital ‘Yes’, BUT, only if certain conditions are fulfilled.

Initiative

With the current setting, the only basic activity in the competition is for you as a contestant to get as many viewers as possible to like you and vote for you even if it means you doing stupid things. The competition has no aim and no problem is being solved.

It will make a whole lot of sense if the show was made a platform for youths from different cultures in Nigeria to put heads together to solve problems facing humanity; particularly in Nigeria.

Segregation

Islam abhors free-mixing between males and females who are in control of their senses. This of course is to prevent the brewing of evil thoughts in the hearts. The current Big Brother set-up has zero restriction for unnecessary mixing between the two genders.

Immorality

Immorality is the de facto theme of Big Brother, it’s like the TV show will not exist without immorality. Ardent followers of the show love it because of the unlimited lewdness that is portrayed. In BBNaija, the only form of perversion that has not been portrayed is homosexuality. Sex, nudity, cuddling and kissing have never been absent from any edition of BBNaija.

Few weeks after the start of the Season 3 of the show which started on 28th January 2018 and ended on 22nd April 2018, two housemates, Miracle and Nina were caught several times having sex. Evicted housemates, Bambam and Teddy A were also caught on camera having sex in the toilet.

The immorality on BBNaija is so bad that even non-Muslims who are seen to be social perverted abhor it.

In an interview with Daily Post on 22nd April, Nigerian entertainer turned activist, Charlie Boy, called for the ban of the BBNaija franchise.

He said about the show, “If I had my way, I would ban young people from watching that scrap. With their present predicament, I don’t see how it adds value to their lives or their future.”

What if a Muslim resolves not to take part in these acts of perversion? The fact that the organizers allow it and you will be under the same roof as the perverts who you must relate with makes it an act of indecency to be a part of the contest.

Allah says,  “And it has already come down to you in the Book that when you hear the verses of Allah [recited], they are denied [by them] and ridiculed; so do not sit with them until they enter into another conversation. Indeed, you would then be like them. Indeed Allah will gather the hypocrites and disbelievers in Hell all together”. Suratul Nisa (4:140)

In another verse, Allah says, “And when you see those who engage in [offensive] discourse concerning Our verses, then turn away from them until they enter into another conversion. And if Satan should cause you to forget, then do not remain after the reminder with the wrongdoing people”. Suratul An’am (6:68)

Privacy

The contestants have absolutely no privacy. Hitherto, viewers across the globe were able to see contestants naked in the bathroom. Extant privacy violations include showing contestants when they dress and when they sleep in bed.

Muslims being people of manner, character and integrity value privacy very much.

Allah says, “O you who believe! Enter not houses other than your own, until you have asked permission and saluted those in them: that is best for you, in order that you may heed (what is seemly). If you find no one in the house, enter not until permission is given to you: if you are asked to go back, go back: that makes for greater purity for yourselves: and Allah knows well all that you do”. Suratul Nur (4:27-28)

Muhammad (SAW) said, “If someone peeps into your house without your permission, and you throw a stone at him and destroy his eyes, there will be no blame on you.”

Language

The contestants often have fights which bring about fireworks of hot; and many at times, vulgar language. Even without fights, some contestants are perverts and they use vulgar language freely and with relish.

As seen earlier, Muslims do not willing stay in a place where perversion is allowed and even celebrated.

Should these vices be corrected, Muslims will gladly and blissfully vie in the Big Brother TV show.

For ‘Muslims’ who might be lured into contesting (by devils), they should know that the laws of Allah bow to no one. The organizers of this show have no value for modesty or religion and they proliferate this profanity; concomitantly making money from it.

Should Muslims then assist them by being part of what they sell? For those who might want to go for the money, Allah enriches whomever He wishes and He enriches a faithful servant only through halal.

Seeking help by bowing to the enemies of Allah when there are several other ways can NEVER be called a noble pursuit.

And whoever fears Allah – He will make a way out for him. And will provide for him from where he does not expect. Suratul Talaq (65:2-3)

Allah increases the provision (rizq) for whom he wills, and straitens (it from whom He wills), and they rejoice in the life of the world, whereas the life of this world as compared with the hereafter is but a brief passing enjoyment. Suratul Ra’d (13:26)

Allah Knows Best
