Is Leroy Aziz Sane a Muslim?

Leroy Sane playing for Germany
The name ‘Leroy Sane’ began to make the rounds in the 2016/2017 season when the young ace made a 37 million pound move from Schalke 04 to English club, Manchester City, and has so far proven his worth winning the
Premiership Young Player of the Year Award for the 2017/2018 season.

The name ‘Aziz’ hardly ever appears in the profile of Sane whose birth name is Leroy Aziz Sane. Where did the name come from?

Leroy Aziz Sane is a son to ex-Senegalese star, Sulayman Sane, who migrated to Germany in 1982. Sane Sr. thereafter married Regina Weber, a full-blooded German, in the early 90s culminating in the birth of Sane Jr. and two other siblings; Kim and Sidi.

As a player in the striking position, Sulayman Sane played for the Senegalese national team and played for at least 10 clubs before retiring in 2010 after bagging 166 goals in at least 440 games. The English Premiership has by far the highest number of known Muslim stars: Mesut Ozil, Paul Pogba, Xerdan Shaqiri and Eden Hazard are just a few.

Leroy Aziz Sane is not known to have ever made a public display of his faith-putting his religious inclination in doubt. However, his parent’s inclusion of the name ‘Aziz’ on his birth certificate is indicative of the fact that his parent dreamt of a religious man for a son.

It also needs to be noted that at least one website (celebrityunfold.com) has described Sane Jr. as a Christian. Even though, no one really knows who is a Christian these days.

Also worthy of note is the fact that as much as we want popular and successful people to identify with Islam, we should want to think differently about Leroy Aziz Sane; he lives a totally western live (far from an Islamic one).
Is Jamal Musiala A Muslim?
On 22nd July 2018, Muslim German great, Mesut Ozil, dumped the German national team citing race-based discrimination. Ozil was castigated in 2017 when he posted a picture of himself in Makkah during Umrah (Lesser Hajj). German pundits and government officials accused him of being ‘unpatriotic’.

Leroy Azizi Sane was left out of the Russia 2018 World Cup German squad in an unprecedented move by German coach, Joachim Lowe. There are speculations that Sane’s Muslim roots became a cause for concern for German sports and government officials.

Germany crashed out in the group stages of the 2018 World Cup; the first time in their world cup history.

Leroy Aziz Sane looks like he is only going to wax stronger. So far, the 23 year old has scored 25 goals in 89 games for Manchester City and 36 goals in 136 games in his club football career. He has also scored 16 goals in 40 games for Germany.
