Erdogan Stands Firm for Rohingya Muslims

Turkey's First Lady: Emine Erdogan
Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan has again shown his unflagging support towards ending the suffering of the Rohingya Muslims. Erdogan is one of three Muslim leaders who never hesitate to voice their anger at the plight of the Rohingyas, the others being President Najib Razak of Malaysia and President Hassan Rohani of Iran. On September 1st, President Erdogan out rightly called the current situation in Burma “a genocide” and has vowed to raise the issue at the UN Security Council. He was quoted to have said in speech while commemorating Eid’ul Adha in Istanbul, "There is a genocide there, those who close their eyes to this genocide perpetuated under the cover of democracy are its collaborators". Mean while, Turkey’s First Lady, Emine Erdogan, visited the
Kutupalong refugee camp in Bangladesh where a lot of Rohingya refugees are being kept to commiserate with them for their losses and to assure them of the support of the Turkish people. It is not the first time Mrs Erdogan is visiting the Rohingyas, in 2013 during a similar crackdown on Rohingya Muslims by Burmese forces and Buddhists which generated thousands of Rohingya refugees, the 62 year old alongside then Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu paid the Rohingyas a visit in western Rakhine state; an encounter that left the first lady in tears. The Turkish contingent made a donation of $2 million in supplies to the oppressed people. A video of Emine Erdogan bursting in tears at the rohingya village went viral on Youtube. The support Muslim refugees enjoy from Erdogan-lead Turkey has made a lot of Muslims place the 63 year old above the Saudi King Salman in hierarchy in the Muslim world. It is worthy to note that King Salman has NEVER made a statement condemning the persecution of Rohingya Muslims.
