Umm Jamal ud-Din Waxes on Despite Criticisms

Umm Jamal ud-Din speaking at an event
Umm Jamal ud-Din recently (August 2017) came under fire by westerners after delivering an Islamic lecture in Sydney wherein she reiterated that it is sinful for women and girls to pluck the hair on their eyebrows in the name of fashion/make-up since Islam condemns any act involving altering the creation of ALLAH. Umm Jamal ud-Din did not bother responding to the backlash since she always knew it would happen. She continues to preach Islam across the globe both in person and via
media. She has a popular Face Book page which goes by her name through which she disseminates Islamic messages to her audience both domestically and internationally.
Umm Jamal ud-Din formally reverted to Islam in 1989, both her father and grandfather were Christian preachers. From the very beginning of her Islam, Umm Jamal's dream was to study the religion deeply in order to benefit herself and others. Soon after marrying, she travelled to Saudi Arabia with the hope of studying at an Islamic University, but found the path to seeking knowledge, particularly for females, very difficult. She therefore turned her attention to studying the Quran and Arabic, firstly studying Qur’an and Tajweed at Dar al-Huda Quran School in Jeddah, through which she eventually obtained a licence to teach Tajweed from her teacher Kareema Czerepinski (a student of Sheikh Ayman Swayd). On returning to Australia, she completed a Bachelor of Arts Languages degree (majoring in Arabic) at the University of Western Sydney. She then went on to study both Aqeedah and Fiqh from scholars in Saudi Arabia and has studied comparative Fiqh, based on the explanation of the Hanbali school of thought. She is currently completing a Bachelor of Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh (Honours) in addition to her being a hafiza (a female who has memorized the Qur'an). Umm Jamal ud-Din whose real name is Mouna Parkin, is a mother of five three of whom she tutored in their memorization of the Qur’an. She has been a teacher at the Islamic College of Australia for about 9 years and has been an active da'iyyah and speaker for over 15 years at various Islamic centers, functions and masajid in Sydney. May ALLAH continue to guide and assist the sincere Da’ees across the globe, Ameen.
