Harvard: Qur’an Verse One of the Greatest Expressions of Justice

Harvard University which was founded in 1636 made a remark which shocked many including Muslims when on 11th March 2015 it declared through the Harvard Law School that a verse in the Qur’an was one of the greatest expressions of justice anywhere in the world. The verse in question is Suratul Nisa (4:135) in which ALLAH said: “O ye who believe! Stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah, even as against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, and whether it be (against) rich or poor: for Allah can best protect both. Follow not the lusts (of your hearts), lest ye swerve, and if ye distort (justice) or decline to do justice, verily Allah is well- acquainted with all that ye do”. The Harvard Law School posted this verse at the entrance to its faculty library showing how much respect it has for it. Harvard University has the largest academic library in the world managed by some of the world’s critical philosophers. Harvard stated on its official website, "The words on these walls affirm the power and irrepressibility of the idea of justice." Of all scriptures of the world's major faiths, only the Qur'an had a quotation prominently displayed.
