Professor Azizan bint Baharuddin-The All-round Muslimah

Professor Azizan Bint Baharuddin
Prof. Azizan received her BSc. (Hons) Biology, University of Tasmania, Australia in 1978, MSc. (Univ. College London) and PhD in Philosophy of Science, University of Lancaster, U.K. She specializes in several areas such as environmental and bioethics, science, religion and development; interfaith and inter-civilisational dialogue. She has published widely in all these areas (14 books & monographs and more than 100 articles). She is also active in several NGOs that are connected with development as well as being a member  of various advisory and consultative committees for ministries such as Unity & National Integration, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Women’s and Social Development, Ministry of Science and Technology. Besides annually giving papers at various conferences locally and abroad, she is also invited regularly to give inputs through the local media regarding issues that are of relevance and connected to her areas of specialization. Currently
she is professor at the Department of Science & Technology Studies as well Deputy Director-General at the Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia.  She was Director of the Centre for Civilisational Dialogue, University of Malaya (2000-2011). She is also a member of the UNESCO International Network of Women Philosophers; member of the National Bioethics Committee, Malaysia; member of the Committee for the Promotion of Inter-religious Harmony Malaysia as well as member of the National Research and Science Council.
