Borno: Suicide Bombers Kill 5 In Mosque

Nigerian map
At least 5 people were killed and 9 others left with fatal injuries   after two bombings targeted a Masjid in Gwoza town in Borno state northeastern Nigeria.

Media reports have it that one of two teenage girls wearing explosives ran into the Masjid when Fajr (early morning prayer) was being observed on Sunday. The other one detonated her vest around the Masjid. It has been categorized a suicide bombing.

There has been debate as to how an individual could witness a suicide bombing and live to tell the tale. No entity has claimed responsibility for the attack even though Boko Haram and its affiliates have carried similar attacks in the past.

Boko Haram which is acclaimed to be the deadliest terror group in sub-Saharan Africa has so far killed over 20, 000 people and displaced millions of others in Nigeria.

The group is said to have around 15, 000 militants within its ranks, it was founded by Mohammed Yusuf in 2002 and is currently led by Abubakar Shekau whose death has been announced several times by two Nigerian administrations.

Muhammadu Buhari became the President of Nigeria in 2015 with a major promise to restore security especially in the Muslim north of the country.

However, after four years in office and over N2.3 trillion (two trillion naira) spent, insecurity has remained endemic in the region.
