Glasgow Cathedral Still Under Fire Over Qur’an Reading

St Mary's Cathedral Glasgow
On the 6th of January, the St Mary’s Cathedral in Glasgow Scotland came under heavy fire after they invited Muslims into the Cathedral to mark the Feast of the Epiphany and allowed a Muslim read verses of the Qur’an than contradicts the Christian view of Jesus Christ.  A 19 year old Muslim student, Madina Javed, did the Qur’anic recitation from Suratul Maryam after which it was translated to English. The Church’s Provost, Very Reverend Kelvin Holdworth has defended the Church’s action saying the move was aimed at building unity between the two faiths. Rev Holdworth told BBC, "Such readings have happened a number of times in the past in this and in other churches and have led to deepening friendships locally, to greater awareness of the things we hold in common and to dialogue about the ways in which we differ." The 'Feast of Epiphany' is an event celebrated by Christians marking the visit of Jesus Christ
by the 'Three Wise Men' while he was in the cradle (according to Christian beliefs). The Scottish police is currently investigating harsh and threatening comments that have been directed at the Church thus far on on-line media platforms. A spokesman for the police told pressmen in Glasgow, "We can confirm we are investigating reports of offensive comments made towards St Mary's Episcopal Cathedral in Glasgow and inquiries are ongoing. Police Scotland will not tolerate any form of hate and encourages all communities to work together to ensure no-one feels threatened or marginalised." The St Mary’s Cathedral in Glasgow was opened on 9th November 1871.
