Muslim
Eatery Gives Out Free Food
A
Muslim eatery, Marche Ferdous in Montreal Canada has been revealed to have been
giving out free food to homeless and poor people in the city for the last four
months. This was revealed when a non-Muslim man, Sean Jalbert heard of the
rumour and tried to confirm its authenticity. He (Sean) went to the eatery on
Jan. 2nd and asked for food pretending not to have money. To his surprise,
the waitress said to him, “We welcome you, pick whatever you like” including
anything he wanted to drink (Halal). He confessed that he was pretending, paid
his bills and thanked them. On getting home, he narrated his experience on Facebook
attracting 3,100 likes and 5,100 shares. A co-owner of Marche Ferdous, Yahya
Hashemi who is an Iranian immigrant told Global news, “We do not ask any questions,
we do not judge people. They want to eat, we give them the food. That’s it,
that’s all.” A chef at the restaurant, Abdel Kadir Bajaoui, told news men, “It
doesn’t matter because, at night you have left-over food; you end up throwing
it out. So why not give it to those in need? It’s not a big deal.” A staff at
the restaurant posted a message on the window that reads, “People with no money
welcome to eat free” (in both English and French).
