Muslim Youths In Panic As Trump Era Nears
A Muslim youth help line, Naseeha, has disclosed that more youths from the Muslim community have called their lines to share one unpleasant experience or the other. Yaseen Poonah, who founded the group 10 years ago told The Toronto star that there has been a 300% rise in the number of calls received by the group in 2016. The group which received 4,000 distress calls from Muslim youths in 2015, received a whooping 16,000 in 2016. Yaseen said the group which was created to serve North America has only 15 staff and as such were able to respond to only 20% of the calls. The finding shows that Muslims in North America may face yet the toughest times when Trump is sworn-in come January 20th. It should be noted that the month following the election victory of Trump saw 112 anti-Muslim incidents recorded by the Southern Poverty Law Center.
